I’m sharing our My Father’s World Homeschool Curriculum reviews in this article.

My Father’s World is a unit study curriculum based on Charlotte Mason-style learning.

It uses living books, notebooking, read-alouds, and a strong focus on worldview, which I love.

They sell unit studies in packages that include the books necessary to run the curriculum and lesson plans as well as extra fun items for hands-on learning.

A unit study keeps the whole family on the same topics so your children can learn together even if they are different ages.

This keeps me from teaching 4 different sciences and 4 different histories, we are all learning the same topic together.

It’s the perfect amount of hands-on learning and books for us, considering I am not a crafty mom.

My Father’s World Homeschool Curriculum Reviews

We have personally used My Father’s World for:

  • Kindergarten
  • First grade
  • Exploring Countries and Cultures
  • Exploration to 1850
  • Ancient History & Literature for High School

With a little organization right when you get the curriculum, My Father’s World is very open and go. I spend my time organizing right before the school year starts so everything is smooth sailing.

You can see a layout of each week and each day what materials you need, books required, and special notes for the lesson.

The curriculum covers History, English, Science, Spelling, Handwriting, and Bible Study.

My Father’s World creates lifelong readers who love books. It’s the closest thing to Charlotte Mason homeschool curriculum in a box we have found.

Although my kids are older now, they still talk about the read-aloud we read together and the projects we created.

The books chosen by the curriculum are often focused on geography, world view and really pull on the heartstrings.

My Father’s World Kindergarten Review

God’s Creation from A to Z focuses on one letter a week with science, bible and hands-on activities tied in.

It’s all-inclusive including phonics, art, music, science, math, literature, and geography.

You can also add a butterfly garden and ant mountain to the package. My kids adored watching butterflies hatch and watching the ants create tunnels right in your home.

My Father’s World Kindergarten, in my opinion, is great for a mature 4-year-old or young 5-year-old.

I used it with my advanced 4-year-old and it was perfect. It’s not filled with bookwork or worksheets and keeps everything light and hands-on.

I will say, if your child knows all their letter sounds and is starting to sound out small words, you would need to look into their first-grade unit.

This unit could be used for preschoolers in my opinion.

MFW kindergarten is for children that are ready to begin phonics and learn their letters.

Your kids will remember the projects in the kindergarten unit for years to come.

My Father’s World First-Grade Reviews

Learning God’s Story focuses on phonics but also includes math, music, art, drawing skills, language arts, science, and read-alouds.

Daily lessons and materials are all laid out in grid format like all of the MFW units.

Step-by-step phonics instructions are given and students learn to read out of the Bible reader which is included in the curriculum.

My Father’s World First Grade is perfect for students learning to blend sounds together and complete simple adding and subtraction with manipulatives.

Copywork and worksheets are introduced to teach writing skills in a gentle way.

I do think you could use this First-grade curriculum as Kindergarten if your child is beginning to read small words and knows all of their alphabet letters and sounds. It starts off with teaching letters which I think a first-grader would know.

My Father’s World Exploring Countries and Cultures Review

This is by far my favorite MFW unit study. It was the most impactful for our family and my kids love geography to this day because of this unit.

Years later, we still have a world map on the wall and refer to it often.

All of the books in this curriculum are so heartfelt and full of love for other cultures.

I believe geography is so important for children to learn. I want them to have a heart for the world and that’s exactly what this curriculum does.

Your children will get to create a passport around the world by using a little passport book and flag stickers for each country.

Geography games come with the curriculum which my kids loved. The read-aloud also corresponds with the geography being studied.

For older students, writing a research report on various countries is included and there are language arts for all grades 3-8 in the curriculum.

The read-alouds include biographies of missionaries and the book Kingdom Tales which honestly after 7 years I still think about on a regular basis.

Window to the World book gives you a glimpse of what other kids and families look like, what they eat, and even areas you can pray for them.

Even though my kids are older now, we still pull these books off of the shelf and enjoy them.

For Exploring Countries and Cultures you do need to add your own math. My Father’s World provides recommendations to fit your needs.

My Father’s World Exploration to 1850

Exploration to 1850 is for grades 4-8 and follows the Charlotte Mason style approach like the other years in MFW.

I think it’s quite a step up from Exploring Countries and Cultures as far as the language arts requirements and the read-aloud.

The students move through history creating their own notebook for historical events and Presidents using president cards provided in the curriculum.

A few of the history books are quite advanced and students may need help reading them or you could read them aloud.

Botany is studied for science using Apologia and involves notebooking as well.

We enjoyed Exploration to 1850 and learned a lot while using it.

It does include some language arts skills in creating notebooks for history but additional language arts is recommended.

You also need grade-appropriate math to add to this unit study.

If you are teaching younger siblings with this curriculum, you can add on the 2nd and 3rd-grade pack. It includes books geared toward younger kids for history and read-alouds.

My Father’s World Ancient History and Literature

This unit is for high school students and includes ancient history, bible, literature, composition, reading, and personal growth.

They give recommendations for math and science including lesson plans for Apologia.

My 9th-grade daughter did this curriculum last year and really enjoyed it. She is an avid reader and it did involve a lot of heavy reading.

Ancient History and Literature uses Notgrass History textbooks as a spine and adds on additional living books.

There is also an extensive timeline book that your student creates so they get a good view of the old testament.

High schoolers are old enough to read the lesson plans for themselves and you check/review their work.

It’s assumed they can run and schedule their day by high school so there is little parent involvement in this curriculum other than checking assignments.

I did omit the Daniel Teen Study as it wasn’t in line with our beliefs and had no trouble leaving it out.

My Father’s World Curriculum Reviews

Overall My Father’s World is one of my favorite curriculum companies. They take time to hand-pick out the best of the best books for your children.

I love the focus on culture and geography that’s in every curriculum because I want my kids to value all people.

My Father’s World homeschool curriculum keeps the planning minimal with grid-style lesson plans that are simple to follow.

You have the ability to add in the hands-on projects or take them away to fit your family’s schedule.

The read-alouds are priceless and have created so many memories for our family.

I can confidently say My Father’s World homeschool curriculum has fostered a love for learning in my children.

The company’s customer service is top notch and they have even called me to ask if my homeschool year was going well and if I needed help with anything.

The curriculum is affordable since you can teach multiple students with one unit.

You don’t need to buy a separate science and history for each student with My Father’s World.

I would recommend My Father’s World to any family looking for a natural style of learning, less busy work, using real books, and a heart for the world.

  2. Wondering what about the Daniel study was against your beliefs. Also how do you rate the history content of this curriculum? Thank you for your review!

    1. I have nothing bad to say about My Fathers World. They are by far my favorite company providing curriculum. Their history is outstanding! We hold a victorious eschatology so we skipped that particular book but everything else was just gold.

  3. I truly appreciated this review. I’ve been wanting to use this curriculum but with 1st grade as our kindergarten and so on since I have an advanced child. This helps me see that it would really probably be okay to do this! Thanks!
