I’m sharing my top picks for Homeschool Curriculum Middle School 2021.

If you know me, I’m kinda a curriculum nerd and have used countless different curriculum styles and companies.

Over the years I’ve latched on to some favorites and today I’m sharing with you what I’m using for Middle School.

Many of these publishers can be used for a range of years from roughly grades 5-8 and looking at samples is a great way to see if it looks like a good fit.

Homeschool Middle Grades Math

This year for math we are using CTC Math. It’s video-based math that’s done entirely on the computer.

It has short and to the point lessons and keeps track of grading.

You can even bump your student up or down grades throughout the year if needed.

CTC offers video math lessons for grades K-Calculus and the teacher has always been engaging.

Having math taught by a video math teacher takes a lot of the pressure off of our homeschool since I’m not strong in math myself.

CTC has a Homeschool Family Package for $148 for all of your students for the year. That’s a lot cheaper than buying each child their own math curriculum.

We’ve used CTC Math in the past and it’s a great choice if you don’t love to teach math yourself.

Homeschool Language Arts Middle School

institute for excellence in writing homeschool review

I’m choosing Institute for Excellence in Writing for our language arts for all of my children this year.

I have put it off in the past because I thought the program looked confusing and expensive.

I went ahead and ordered it not too long ago for my reluctant teen who struggles in writing and even he loves it!

No joke, he finally likes his writing lessons.

Institute for Excellence in Writing is above and beyond any language arts program I’ve ever seen. It not only teaches writing, it teaches thinking!

It teaches your child how to have complete and organized thoughts, then teaches them how to put them on paper.

It’s just brilliant.

I’m using Structure and Style for Students Level B for middle schoolers and a reluctant high schooler.

The purchased videos can be shared with all of my kids so each child only needs a binder. It’s actually been a lot cheaper than I thougth.

So far we are extremely pleased with Institute for Excellence in Writing and it’s been a blessing for our whole family.

Homeschool Science for Middle School Picks

apologia middle school homeschool curriculum

We are using Apologia this year and I ordered the experiment kit from HomeScienceTools to go with it.

I’ve tried Apologia in the past but I never ordered the experiment kit and it was too hard to pull together for me.

I’m not one of those organized moms who takes hours on experiments for my kids.

Just buying the experiment box with the curriculum kit is a game changer. Now I don’t have to wander around the house and stress out over not having a plastic spoon or a random balloon.

I really like the student workbook that comes with Apologia Textbooks, it’s light and still helps reenforce the concepts in the book.

Apologia science is very “snuggle on the couch and read together” type of science and I’ve found it easy for the kids to understand.

HomeScienceTools is a great place to order homeschool science curriculum, I’ve found them much cheaper than other places and their rewards add up quickly.

Homeschool History for Middle Grades

Notgrass From Adam to Us Homeschool curriculum review

History has to be my favorite subject for homeschool. There are so many amazing curriculums to pick from and ways to learn.

This year we are using Notgrass From Adam to Us.

It’s a sweeping overview of history from Adam and Eve to current times. It highlights biblical events, historical figures, world landmarks, and even has “a day in the life” so your students can relate to different time periods.

We are also using the student notebook and getting the Audio MP3 so they can listen along to the chapters and look at the pictures.

I’ve found it helps with retention and even pronouncing different names and cities.

I LOVE Notgrass materials and think it’s an excellent choice for homeschool history of all grades.

Their literature packages are also so rich and full of great books.

I would love to know what you are all using for your homeschool curriculum for middle school grades in the comments below.
