You need to establish self-care for homeschool moms.
Our days can be so crazy with kids full of questions, figuring out what’s for dinner again, or just trying to keep the floor clean.
Yes, every person on the planet needs a form of self-care to make sure they are not getting burned out or exhausted.
However, homeschool moms take on the extra load of responsibility of educating their children at home and at times it can be flat out hard.
Maybe your day is filled with science projects, lesson plans, library trips, and making everything a “teaching moment” and you just need a break sometimes.
Remembering to drink water, rest when you feel tired, and incorporate fun activities are the very basic self-care ideas.
Plus our unique schedule, being home a lot, can mean we need a different type of self-care than other moms.
I’ve created a Self Care Planner just for homeschool moms you can get for free at the bottom of this article.
Self-Care for Homeschool Moms
So how to homeschool moms get a self-care routine started?
Evaluate your self-care needs as a homeschooler
I think you need to evaluate your needs. If you are someone who spends a lot of time at home then your self-care could include going to a favorite coffee shop or out with a friend.
If your days are filled with driving around and hardly ever being home, maybe you could have a date night at home and hire a babysitter.
Ask yourself whether being home or away sounds the most peaceful.
Do you want your self-care routine to incorporate more fun or do you need a back to basics checklist of remembering to drink water, eat, and shower?
We’ve all been there, no shame for where you are at in your needs.

How often do you need self-care?
You may only require a fun activity once a week to spark your joy but other moms need to section off a time of day to take care of themselves.

Basic self-care needs for homeschool moms
Every mom no matter how crazy their day needs to make sure they are meeting their basic needs.
I remember quite a few days when my kids were little that I felt like nothing productive got done.
I kept them alive and fed them, that was about it. Having a bunch of young kids is hard.
Here are a few ways I practice self-care as a homeschool mom.
- I sit outside in the sun as often as I can, it recharges me like a battery
- I listen to music with headphones, as an added bonus, I can’t even hear the kids whine.
- I buy myself a treat at the store to eat when the kids are in bed.
- I take a break if I am feeling overly stressed or exhausted.
- I put on history or science documentaries for those really rough days and call it school.
- I make a fancy dinner with candles once in a while.
- I have a date night with my husband every few weeks
- I take time to do fun things that are not productive at all
No matter what your days are like, try to make sure you are drinking enough water, sleeping at least 6 hours a night, showering, and eating a few meals a day.
Self-care doesn’t have to be expensive, it can be free and simple like taking a walk in the morning.
You don’t even need to leave the house unless you want to, because your self-care plan should meet your exact needs.
All families go through seasons of intensity and seasons of flow.
I’ve created the Free Homeschool Self-Care Planner for moms who need a little help in getting started.
It’s full of daily checklists, bedtime routines, and healthy boundaries information designed for homeschool moms.
